Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes 8 to 10 ounces each
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt optional
  • 1 pinch black pepper optional

Equipment

  • Basket-style air fryer
  • Fork
  • Tongs
  • Instant-read thermometer optional

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F for 3 minutes if the appliance manual recommends it.
  2. Scrub and dry the sweet potatoes, prick each several times with a fork, and rub with optional oil and salt.
  3. Place whole potatoes in the basket with space around them and no foil wrapping.
  4. Cook at 390°F for 35 to 45 minutes, turning at 20 minutes. Begin checking an 8-ounce potato at 32 to 35 minutes.
  5. A thin knife or skewer should slide through the center with little resistance; the center is commonly around 205°F to 212°F when very soft.
  6. Rest 5 minutes before splitting, keeping hands clear of hot steam. Season after opening.
