Crispy Breaded Shrimp in the Air Fryer Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound large raw shrimp 21/25 count, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt or 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked or sweet paprika
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs lightly crushed
  • high-heat cooking spray
  • lemon wedges, chopped parsley and dipping sauce optional, for serving

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Three shallow bowls
  • Silicone-tipped tongs
  • Wire rack
  • Instant-read thermometer

Method
 

  1. Pat the shrimp very dry and season with salt, pepper, garlic and paprika.
  2. Put flour, egg whisked with water, and panko in three shallow bowls.
  3. Coat each shrimp lightly in flour, then egg, then panko. Rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F if recommended and mist the basket lightly.
  5. Place shrimp in one layer with gaps and mist the tops with oil.
  6. Cook for 4 minutes. Turn gently, mist dry spots and cook 3 to 5 minutes more.
  7. Remove when the breading is golden and shrimp are opaque, pearly and safely cooked. Rest uncovered for 1 to 2 minutes.

Notes

  • Use fully thawed raw shrimp and pat very dry.
  • Shake off excess flour and drain excess egg.
  • Cook in one layer and turn only after the first crust sets.
