Ingredients

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats 180 grams
  • 1 1/2 cups plain Greek yogurt 360 grams; 2% recommended
  • 1 cup 2% cottage cheese 226 grams
  • 1 1/2 cups milk plus more to adjust, 360 grams
  • 3 tablespoons chia seeds 36 grams
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup 60 grams
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 10 milliliters
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 2 cups strawberries or mixed berries sliced, 300 grams
  • 1/4 cup toasted almonds chopped, optional, 30 grams

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Silicone spatula
  • Four 16- to 20-ounce containers with lids

Method

  1. Blend Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, milk, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and salt for 30 to 45 seconds until completely smooth.
  2. Stir rolled oats and chia seeds together in a large bowl so the chia is evenly distributed.
  3. Fold the dairy base into the oats until no dry pockets remain; rest 5 minutes, then stir again to break up early chia clumps.
  4. Divide the mixture among four clean 16- to 20-ounce containers, leaving room for fruit and stirring.
  5. Cover immediately and refrigerate at 40°F or below for at least 4 hours, preferably 8 to 12 hours.
  6. Stir each jar, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time if too thick, and top with berries and optional almonds just before serving.

Notes

  • Use old-fashioned rolled oats; steel-cut oats do not soften sufficiently in this ratio.
  • Blend cottage cheese completely smooth before combining with oats.
  • Stir again after 5 minutes to prevent chia clumps.
  • Add fruit and crunchy toppings at serving for the best texture.
  • Keep at 40°F or below and use within 4 days.
  • Contains milk; optional almonds are tree nuts.
