Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup optional, added after cooking

Equipment

  • Basket-style air fryer
  • Chef's knife
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Thin metal spatula

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F for 3 minutes if the model recommends preheating.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into uniform 3/4-inch cubes. Blot any surface moisture with a clean towel.
  3. Toss the cubes with oil, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder and pepper until each piece has a thin even coating.
  4. Spread the cubes in one loose layer. Cook in two batches if they pile deeply or cover every opening.
  5. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes, shaking at 6 and 12 minutes. Begin checking at 15 minutes.
  6. Stop when several cut faces are browned and a knife slides into the centers with little resistance. Rest 2 minutes and toss with optional maple syrup.
